A Modernist Moonstone Brooch

An 18-carat gold brooch made by Paul Günter Hartkopf in Düsseldorf around 1970.

The modernist brooch has an asymmetrical design and is set with 17 cabochon-cut moonstones.

Hartkopf was originally an optician before becoming a master gold and silversmith in Düsseldorf. He has created works for Queen Elisabeth II and for the city of Düsseldorf, among others. His award-winning work is characterised by a powerful clarity.
