This octagonal brandy bowl was made in Leeuwarden in 1658 by Wijntje Berends van Asten. The bowl stands on a domed octagonal foot which is completely smooth. A rope border and a band of diamonds form the stem. Six sides of the bowl are engraved with a cartouche composed of C-shaped volutes with masks incorporated. Five cartouches depict the senses: a woman with mirror for sight, a woman with flowers for smell, a man holding a branch with berries for taste, a woman with a lute for hear and a woman with a bird for touch. The centre cartouche is engraved with the coat of arms of Hoppers-Romckes. Below the horizontally mounted cast handles that are symmetrically pierced, the bowl is engraved with fruit bunches.
